Angel Guards

We don't need these in our current home, but I know lots of friends that have kids' rooms on the second floor (or higher in apartments).  If you like to have your windows open in nice weather, and your kid(s) could be at risk for falling out -- remember, screens are not designed to and will NOT hold your child in! -- check these out:  http://angelguards.com/

Curly Hair Humidity Woes

I was either blessed or cursed with naturally curly hair, depending on the day and especially the weather.  These last few weeks in Central Indiana have been hot.  Record breaking HOT.  Somehow, even with the record breaking drought, it's still plenty humid.  The humidity wreaks havoc on my naturally curly locks ~ turning the mass of it into one very dry and frizzy lions mane. Top that off with my new-found need to dump a bottle of color on it every few months to cover up the gray hairs that are making a way-too-early appearance into said mane, and you've got one hot (pun intended), frizzy, mess.

I have promised myself that I will teach my daughter how to take care of and style her beautiful curls so that she grows up loving them, rather than hating them.  I grew up in a family of stick-straight heads of hair, and nobody had a clue what to do with mine.  I mean, they BRUSHED it for goodness sake!  The problem with this promise is that I can't figure out what to do with my own!  I've perfected my product line-up for straightening, but have yet to fall in love with anything for my curls.  Until now...

While perusing my local Ulta store last week, I came across a pretty looking bottle of some new product just for us curly haired folks!  This new-to-me line is called DevaCurl.  The shelf even had some guides on types of curls and the best product for them.  According to their guide, I have "boticcelli" style curls - vary in size & shape, looser "S" shaped curls combined with tighter ones, wilts if it gets too long.  Some of the features of the curliest "corkscrew" curls they describe seem to match mine, like the fact that they contract tightly if cut too short (hello Lion's mane!), and the fact that it appears thick but is actually baby fine and delicate when you examine a single strand (always a source of argument when talking to my baby-fine, stick-straight haired aunt who insists I have tons of thick hair), but other features such as tangles & snarls under the top layer and at the nape of the neck don't fit the bill so I went with the product suggestions for "boticcelli" curls.

I bought the Heaven In Hair moisture treatment (my hair has been a little dry since the last bottle o'color application), the Set It Free leave-in moisture lock spray, the Styling Cream, and the Mist-er Right Curl Revitalizer.

The Heaven In Hair moisture treatment was super easy, but a little time consuming.  You cover your wet hair in the stuff, wrap in a plastic headwrap (I couldn't find my shower cap, so I used plastic wrap), leave in for 30 minutes, then rinse.  I was left with super soft hair.

I have used the Set It Free & Styling Cream combo three times now, and LOVE the results!  I spray in the Set It Free moisture lock, then use 3 pumps of the Styling Cream by flipping my hair upside down and scrunching away.  Air dry, then scrunch some more after it dries to release the pretty, shiny, fluffy (but not frizzy), perfect ringlets.

This stuff is so good that I have even been able to wash every other day, which usually only happens if I wear my hair up or straighten it.  The curls are still surprisingly styled when I wake up the next day, considering I am a big tosser/turner.  I spray in the Mist-er Right (don't love the natural lavendar smell, but don't hate it either) to calm down the minimal frizz on the top layer and scrunch to re-activate some of the curl that has fallen out.

This stuff has even worked in this massive heatwave!  I am so SOLD!

Go to MyDevaCurl.com to learn more about curly hair and the DevaCurl product line.

I am not receiving any sort of compensation for this review, I just want to get the word out to my fellow curly-haired gals!

Somebody who I used to nose

My daughter is a big, make that HUGE, fan of the hit song "Somebody Who I Used To Know" by Gotye.  Only she thinks, likely due to her recent studies of body parts and their names, the line goes "somebody who I used to nose."  As soon as Daddy starts playing the song on the TV, she immediately starts singing (with a very serious singing face, mind you) "Somebodyyyyyyyy Nooooooose" complete with finger touch to the nose.  Cutest. Thing. Ever.
